Summer break round-up: everything you need to know

Students in Abercromby Square

You’ve made it through the academic year! With the formal exams and assessments period officially finished, your thoughts might be turning to the summer break. Whether you’re travelling, working or spending time with friends and family this summer, we’ve rounded up what’s on offer from us, plus things to think about as you head home for the holidays.

Wellbeing support

Even though the academic year is over, our wellbeing and support offer is still here if you need us. Our central wellbeing team is on hand 9am-5pm throughout the week. You can fill in a quick triage form to book an appointment with them. You can also call them on 0151 795 1000 or drop into the Student Life building on University Square.

24/7 listening service

We also have a 24/7 listening service provided by Health Assured. You can speak to them any time of the day or night. Call their freephone helpline on 0800 028 3766. Health Assured also provide the Wisdom app which includes options to speak to someone via live chat, email or video call. Download the app for Apple or Android, and enter the code MHA187679 to get access to support.

Guild of Students advice service

Your Guild of Students is also available as a touchpoint if you are worried about how your exams are going. They offer free and confidential advice which is independent from the University. You can in touch with them at [email protected]

Careers and Employability advice and opportunities

Whether you’re planning to use the summer break to consider your future careers plans, scope out graduate job opportunities or just earn some extra cash over the break, our Careers and Employability can help.

If you haven’t already, make sure you’re signed up to our Handshake platform. It’s free for all students to use and covers the whole range of work-based opportunities, from casual, short-term jobs to graduate career paths. Activate your account to get started.

The Career Studio

The Career Studio is open on campus throughout June, Monday to Friday from 11am to 4pm. The Career Studio closes for the summer break from 27 June and will reopen in the September at the beginning of the new academic year.

If you have any questions or need any help over the summer you can get in touch with the team by  sending an email to [email protected] or via Handshake messaging.

Help us to leave Liverpool tidy this summer – donate, don’t dump!

The time has come to start thinking about clearing out your houses/halls/room. The Guild have teamed up with the British Heart Foundation and Fareshare to make your clear out a little bit easier – and more sustainable!

Please donate clothes, shoes, books, small electrical items and kitchenware like plates and cutlery that are in good condition.

You can:

  • drop off items at the donation points in Guild Reception and your University Halls reception.
  • If you live in Smithdown or Kensington, arrange your collection by emailing [email protected] with your address and a contact number by 12pm on 25 June. Make sure all donations are clearly labelled and ready for collection at 10:30am on your allocated collection day.
  • Drop off your items at Kensington Fields Community Centre from 10am – 3pm on Friday 27 and Monday 30 June.

For more info about Leave Liverpool Tidy, visit the Guild’s webpages.

Make sure your student home is safe and secure if you’re not moving out

If your student home tenancy is rolling over, make sure it’s safe from opportunists over the summer with these tips from Merseyside Police:

  • Close and lock all your doors and windows before you leave for the summer. Double-lock doors if you can 🔐
  • Invest in a timer device to automatically turn lamps on at night so your house appears to have someone there 💡
  • Set your burglar alarm if you have one🔔
  • Make sure any side gates are locked🚪

Staying in Liverpool?

If you’re staying in the city over the summer, lots of our campus services are still available. The Sport and Fitness centre on campus remains open, with slightly reduced opening hours, as do the libraries, whose summer opening hours are detailed on their webpages.

The Guild of Students will also be open, and they’ll be running a range of events over the break – check out their events page where they’ll be posting updates.
